Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee has been named co-chair of the Congressional Sudan Caucus in the House of Representatives. Lee has been a long-standing leader within the Caucus, focusing her efforts on bringing the world’s attention to the genocide in Darfur.  

Washington, DC - Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) released the following statement today in reaction to the budget plan introduced by Chairman Paul Ryan and Republicans that would threaten Medicare and Medicaid and hurt our nation’s most vulnerable communities:

“Today the Pentagon previewed a plan to reduce military spending by $6 billion in the 2013 budget request.  I am optimistic that current efforts to address runaway defense spending are headed in the right direction.
